Abstract
Rastislav Varga was born in September 29, 1955 in Bački Petrovac in a Slovak family by mother Želmira (b. 1931) and father Pavel (b. 1932) . He had two sisters, the eldest Vlasta (1951) and twin sister Svetluša (1955). The family moved to Novi Sad (1965), where brother and sister enrolled together in the Primary Ballet School, but only Rastislav (1973) graduated from the Secondary Ballet School. In the same year, he became a permanent member of the Ballet troup (although he played in children's performances at the Ballet while still a student at the Ballet School). A scholarship at the Ballet School in Leningrad (1974–1975) with pedagogue I.J. Umrichin was crucial for his professional advancement. There, in addition to his knowledge of ballet, he made many friends and perfected his Russian language. After returning to the ballet collective in Novi Sad, he got his first soloist and leading roles (in 1975 in the children's ballet Peter Pan). He earned the title of principal of the Ballet of the Serbian National Theater in 1983. Data on his professional career preserve the performances - a total of 58 different roles played during his professional life in the Ballet of the Serbian National Theater (SNP) - as well as numerous reviews in written, electronic media or in encyclopedic references. Critics evaluate differently which role is the best in his versatile career. However, as if there was some tacit agreement, it were the roles of the prince in Giselle, Swan Lake, Cinderella, and The Nutcracker that marked his acting style. This was followed by roles in children's ballets and with themes from everyday life (for example, The Wicked Woman) that revealed his gift for the comic. During twenty years (1975–1995) he played 14 solo roles in operas and operettas, and collaborated with 30 choreographers from the country and abroad (with some more than once). He remained connected with the Ballet School in Novi Sad until the end of his career, teaching duet dancing. He also contributed to the collective as director of the SNP Ballet on two occasions: from 1994 to 1996, and from 2005 to 2008 years. He was occasionally engaged in choreography: on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the liberation of the city of Novi Sad (1984), he choreographed to the music of Gabor Lenđel for the cantata about freedom, “Open the door to vision” (“Latomasnak ajtot nyitni”), directed by Karol Wiček at the Novi Sad Theater. For his multiple contribution to the development of ballet art, he received three awards in his theater: Annual awards for the role of Allen in the ballet The Wicked Woman (“Vragolanka”) in 1991; Annual award for the role of Abbot Danilo in The Autumn of the King (1994), and the "Jovan Đorđević" gold medal (1996). He was the winner of the Spark of Culture award of the Cultural and Educational Community of Vojvodina for his pedagogical work and his contribution to the development of ballet art (2007).

Uvod
Rastislav Varga je rođen (29. 9. 1955) u Bačkom Petrovcu u slovačkoj porodici: majka Želmira (1931), otac Pavel (1932), starija sestra Vlasta (1951) i sestra bliznakinja Svetluša (1955). Porodica se seli u Novi Sad (1965), gde se brat i sestra zajedno upisuju u osnovnu Baletsku školu, ali Srednju baletsku školu završava samo Rastislav (1973). Iste godine postao je stalni član baletskog kolektiva (mada je igrao u predstavama za decu u Baletu još dok je bio učenik Baletske škole). Za njegovo profesionalno napredovanje presudna je bila stipendija u Baletskoj školi u Lenjingradu (1974–1975) kod pedagoga I. J. Umrihina. Tamo je, pored baletskog znanja, stekao i brojne prijatelje i usavršio ruski jezik. Po povratku u baletski kolektiv u Novi Sad, dobija prve solističke i glavne uloge (1975. u baletu za decu Petar Pan). Zvanje prvak Baleta Srpskog narodnog pozorišta stiče 1983.
Podatke o profesionalnoj karijeri čuvaju odigrane predstave: ukupno su 58 odigranih različitih uloga tokom radnog veka u Baletu SNP-a, kritike u pisanim, elektornskim medijima ili u enciklopedijskim odrednicama. Kritičarke različito procenjuju koja je uloga najbolja u njegovoj bogatoj karijeri. Ipak, kao da postoji neki prećutni dogovor, to su uloge princa (u Žizeli, Labudovom jezeru, Pepeljuga, Ščelkunčiku) koje su obeležile njegov način igre. Slede uloge u baletima za decu i sa temama iz svakodnevnog života (na primer, Vragolanka) koje otkrivaju njegov dar za komično. Tokom dvadeset godina (1975–1995) igrao je i 14 solo uloga u operama i operetama i sarađivao sa 30 koreografa iz zemlje i inostranstva (sa nekima i više puta). Sa Baletskom školom u Novom Sadu ostao je povezan do kraja karijere predajući predmet duetna igra. Svoj doprinos kolektivu dao je i kao direktor Baleta SNP u dva navrata: 1994–1996. i 2005–2008. godine. Povremeno se bavio koreografijom: povodom 40. godišnjice oslobođenja grada Novog Sada, (1984) radio je koreografiju na muziku Gabora Lenđela za kantatu o slobodi Otvoriti vrata viziji (Latomasnak ajtot nyitni) u režiji Karolja Vičeka u Novosadskom pozorištu. Za višestruki doprinos razvoju baletske umetnosti, u svom teatru je dobio tri nagrade: Godišnja nagrade za ulogu Alena u baletu Vragolanka (1991); Godišnja nagrada za ulogu igumana Danila u Kraljeva jesen (1994), i zlatna medalja „Jovan Đorđević (1996). Dobitnik je nagrade Iskre kulture Kulturno-prosvetne zajednice Vojvodine za pedagoški rad i razvoj baletske umetnosti (2007). Detinjstvo i odrastanje
Rastislav Varga je rođen u Bačkom Petrovcu (29. 9.1955) u umetničkoj porodici. Majka Želmira je, pored svog posla (spikerka za slovački program u Radio Novom Sadu, a potom prevodilac za slovački jezik u prevodilačkoj službi Pokrajinske vlade), učestvovala, zajedno sa mužem Pavelom, u programu pozorišnih komada u akademskom kulturno-umetničkom društvu Slovaka, zatim na filmu, ali i u brojnim drugim umetničkim događanjima.
Otac Pavel je takođe učestvovao u takvim aktivnostima, ali je nažalost umro kada je Rastislav bio dečak. Njegova starija sestra Vlasta (1951) i njegova sestra bliznakinja Svetluša (1955) bile su mu dovoljno društvo za razne svakodnevne aktivnosti i igre. Nije bila tajna da je njihova majka imala najbolje namere (i velike ambicije) za svoju decu. Sam Rastislav o tome daje podatke, objašnjavajući kako je došlo do toga da se upiše u Baletsku školu: "Nisam siguran da dečak i devojčica na uzrastu od deset godina mogu da se opredele šta bi želeli da rade u životu. Moja odluka da krenem u Baletsku školu nije bila (samo) moja, nego moje majke. Imam sestru bliznakinju, pa se mami učinilo zgodno da brat i sestra blizanci zajedno uče balet, da jednog dana igraju zajedno. Moja majka je igrala folklor, svirala violinu i klavir, pevala, bila angažovana u amaterskoj dramskoj sekciji u Bačkom Petrovcu (pošto smo Slovaci i tamo smo živeli), uostalom tamo sam se i rodio. U amaterskom pozorištu glumili su moj otac i majka, bili su muzički obrazovani. Sve je to uticalo da nas ona usmeri na balet. I sad, čista ironija, ja sam ostao u baletu, a moja sestra je posustala i napustila balet nakon pet godina učenja." (Savić 2006, 175).
